Alec Baldwin Joins ‘JOKER’ Film

Holy All-Star cast, Batman! The latest news from Deadline indicates that Oscar nominee Alec Baldwin has joined an already stellar cast lead by Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker. Baldwin also joins Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Marc Maron. Deadline is reporting that Baldwin will be playing Bruce Wayne’s father, Thomas. Thomas Wayne last seen on the big screen was played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Earlier today Umberto Gonzalez with The Wrap tweeted that filming would begin in a couple weeks and Deadline has confirmed that news with a date of September 10. The Joker is DC’s elseworld take on the character and will not be set in the current DCU. The film will be set in the early 80’s and according to the studios description of the film  “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”

Todd Phillips will direct the film with Martin Scorsese set to produce. No other details were given at this time. Alec Baldwin can currently be seen in Mission: ImpossibleFallout which is in theaters.  The Joker is set to hit theaters on October 4 2019.
