There was a lot of speculation and discussion when Alec Baldwin was initially hired to portray Thomas Wayne in the new The Joker movie. It was debated about how Baldwin would approach the role, and then the debate continued upon his subsequent dropping from the project. The fact remained however, the part still needed to be filled. It appears that has been accomplished as Brett Cullen has been cast as Thomas Wayne in the upcoming The Joker movie from director Todd Phillips.
Our friends at ComicBook.com have confirmed the casting with Warner Bros. as Cullen will be stepping into the role that was briefly occupied by Baldwin.
Cullen has been involved in comic book inspired roles before as he is best known as playing Barton Blaze in Ghost Rider. He has also appeared in The Dark Knight Rises in which he played a Congressman. This means this is not his first time working with Warner Bros. on a DC Comics film.
Cullen’s other work has included roles in Person of Interest, The Replacements, and as Goodwin Stanhope on ABC’s hit show LOST.
As reported earlier when discussions of the character were brought up during Baldwin’s brief hiring, the Thomas Wayne that fans will meet in The Joker is not one described as one aiming to be a necessarily likable character. It will be interesting to see how Cullen approaches the role. How do you Joker fans feel about Cullen filling Baldwin’s appearing and disappearing shoes?
