‘The Joker’ Director Phillips Laments Paparazzi Leaking Info On His Film

Imagine you have an idea. You want to take an established character, one that has been known for a long time and present him in a new light. Show him in ways that are both familiar and yet alien. You are excited about the project. You have hired an experienced team and a lead actor and cast you know is talented enough to pull it off. Production begins and you can’t wait for audiences to see your vision. Suddenly, images and information is being released about your creation that you have no control of. Pictures from the set of such quality that you wouldn’t want people to make judgments of your work on. This forces you to release pictures of your own to balance out the bad. This is the space that Todd Phillips, Director of  The Joker finds himself in. The set is constantly surrounded by photographers who have posted tons of pictures and videos of the film already. Much to the chagrin of the Director.

This became evident to Phillips when he recently posted a photo of Zazie Beetz’s role in the film, providing what SHOULD have been the first official look at her character. After posting the image, someone commented that they have seen too much and the constant flow of information will make the wait for the finished product harder. That sounds like a GOOD thing.  This prompted the director to express some of his frustration about the photographers and his lack of control.

You can imagine the frustration that Phillips is feeling but I’m sure he realizes that he is not the first or the last that will suffer these kinds of output control. In the days of social media with anyone with a phone having access to a camera or a video recorder, it would next to impossible to prevent it. In addition, sites like ours and our friends in the information sharing business wouldn’t be doing OUR job if we didn’t report what we obtain.

So what do you think GVNation? Should Phillips be frustrated at the leakage of information about his film or should he just accept it as part of the way business is done these days? Does the deluge of photos and video make you more likely to want to see the finished product or less likely? Share your opinions with us at GVNation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
