Zazie Beetz Reportedly Confirmed For ‘Joker’ Movie

It’s not very often that you see an actor or actress jump from the Marvel Universe to DC, but it seems to look like Zazie Beetz is doing just that. The actress, who played Domino in Deadpool 2, has been linked to the Joker origin film for some time, and it’s finally looking like she might be confirmed for it.

Beetz has been long speculated to join the movie by That Hashtag Show, and now it looks like we finally have some more information on who she will be playing. Sophie Dumond is supposedly going to be a love interest for the Joker. Here’s what the official casting breakdown says about Domund:

“Supporting female (27-34) to play African American or to play Latina. Not beautiful, has a hardness to her, a single mother living on the Lower East Side, doing the best she can, trying to make ends meet; worn out by the grind of the city. She understands how the system is stacked against her and the people in her community, how unjust it all is for them. She’s just trying to catch a break.”

That seems to be right in Beetz’s wheelhouse and I’m sure she’ll do an amazing job playing the character. But don’t expect an official announcement anytime soon; Joaquin Phoenix was linked to this project for months before he was officially cast as The Joker. Another tid bit of information I found is that Robert De Niro is still in talks to join the film, but it won’t be in a major role. Supposedly he’ll be a news reporter or talk show host and will play a smaller role.

So far, the Joker film only has two people confirmed: Joaquin Phoenix, who will play the Joker, and comedian Marc Maron, who is cast in an unidentified role. The film is set to be directed by Todd Phillips and is rumored to begin filming this September with a hopeful release date of October 2019.
