The 2026 Major League Baseball All-Star weekend is coming from the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. For the first time ever, Netflix will be the host of the Home Run Derby. The anchor of All-Star weekend is coming to the streaming giant which will feature several new rules. We share how you can watch the Home Run Derby, when you can watch it, and the new rules in this year’s competition.

The Home Run Derby took place last season in Atlanta, Georgia where Cal Reigh defeated Junior Caminero in the finals. The Derby features stars like Matt Olson, Byron Buxton, and O’Neil Cruz, who hit the longest homer in Derby history (outside of Coors Field) at 513 feet. This season could see names like Philadelphia’s own and home run leader Kyle Schwarber, Yordan Alvarez, and Juan Soto. Be on the lookout for names who will play in the near future.

    Home Run Derby Rule Changes

Last season each batter got three minutes or 40 pitches (whichever came first) to hit as many home runes as possible. After the period, batters entered a bonus period which lasted until they recorded three outs. If a player hit a homer that was 425-feet, they earned an extra out.

The changes for the 2026 Home Run Derby. In the first round, hitters will get 20 swings apiece. Rounds two and three will include only 15 swings per batter. However, if the hitter hits a home run on their 20th (or 15th) swing, they will continue until they get an out.

In the first round, the tiebreaker will be longest home run. After round one, tiebreakers will be broken via each hitter getting three more swings apeice.

How many batters will be in the Home Run Derby?

There will be eight players that will kick off the derby. After the first round, that number will be cut in half. In the second round, the competition will turn into a head-to-head battle. The person who hits the most homeruns will face the fourth place finisher of round one with second taking on third. The winners of that round will face off in the championship.

The current Home Run leaders in the NL and AL are Kyle Schwarber and Byron Buxton. Schwarber would be a welcomed face because of the game being played in Philadelphia. Buxton played in last years game. Other current top hitters are New York Yankees Ben Rice, Colorado Rockies Hunter Goodman, and Chicago White Sox’s Colson Montgomery. All of which could find themselves competiting for the trophy.

The GREATEST MOMENTS in the history of the Home Run Derby!

How can you watch the 2026 MLB Home Run Derby?

For the first time ever, The Home Run Derby will be streaming on Netflix. It will air live on Netflix at 8 PM ET. The Derby will take place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, the home of the 2026 All-Star Game.
