31 Days of Horror: ‘THE EVIL DEAD’ Review

Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead is a horror that does not hold up well for its time, and that will turn off many newer people, but for a lot more other people and me, that is the charm of 1981’s The Evil Dead.

The acting is real cringe and overdramatic that you cannot help that it was mad to be fun, but at the same time, horrifying. Even the pacing of the movie is ridiculous; it is very repetitive, especially near the end when the ghost just keeps coming to get Ash.

The Evil Dead is meant for the Halloween season with a group of people. Either with your family that loves Horror movies or with a bunch of friends. Do not watch this movie by yourself because it is not as fun.

The Evil Dead franchise has a good number of loyal fans, and I can see why. Bruce Campbell as Ash is very charming, Ellen Sanweiss as Cheryl becomes hilarious, and Betsy Baker kills the show for me. Even though they are cringe you can tell that they are having fun, and that’s all that matters.

What makes this film so memorable are the weird moments, but the most important are the effects. They might have been ahead of their time when they came out, but they look ridiculous now, and it is great from the dramatic blood squirts to seeing limbs being chopped off. It just makes The Evil Dead a classic.

If I had to rate this movie it would be into two parts.

  • Entertainment Value
  • Pure criticism

With Entertainment value, I would give this an 8.5/10 because you will have a great time with this movie with friends. But the negative side is you might not want to watch it my yourself because it’s not as fun alone.

Pure Criticism 6.5/10 it does not hold up at all the special effects are outdated, the visuals are awful, and the acting is cringe. So overall, it this would be around a 7/10.

Happy Spooktober, 29 Days of Halloween. 🎃👻
