31 Days of Horror: ‘The Invisible Man’ Review

The Invisible Man (2020)

WOW! Let me start with my anticipation for The Invisible Man. When the first trailer released online I liked it but did not love it, just because it looked like they showed everything in the trailer SPOILER ALERT there is a lot more to the film then what they showed in the trailer.

Fantastic performances all around. Elisabeth Moss killed it as Cecilia. The way she portrayed her PTSD at the beginning of the movie was done masterfully, and seeing her develop into a strong woman that faces here fears near the end of the movie was done perfectly.

Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Adrian was fucking sadistic I hated him through and through, which is a good thing. Many criticism with this character is that he didn’t feel relatable which is fear since we have gotten villains like Thanos who at a point felt relatable, but my argument towards that is not all villains have to be relatable and Adrian was far from relatable, which was perfect for this film.

Leigh Whannell did a fantastic job directing and writing. Almost everything to me was done in a fantastic way from the timing of each scare, to the dead space that gave the illusion that someone was there kept me on the edge of my seat. The script was well done; having the focus centered around an abusive relationship was a great way to show how strong this film truly is.

Then cinematography (Stefan Duscio) was done amazingly well. When the camera panned to nothing I always asked myself, “is Adrian there, Is he not there?” This is a film that will keep you thinking. And that is the big reasons why this style of cinematography works for this specific movie and not many other films. If any other movie decided to pan of to nothing then it would have been boring, but with The Invisible Man it just works!

This is a movie I am going to recommend everyone to watch! Entertainment value is a 10/10 no matter who you are you will be mesmerized by this movie. If I were to critique this would be a 9/10 almost everything was perfect that one thing that I would have added is more of the relationship between Cecilia and Sydney.

Happy Spooktober, 27 Days Until Halloween! 🎃👻
