No other industry in the world sees the number of trends the entertainment industry does – plenty of celebrities will be able to attest to this. What is big news one day is suddenly knocked off the front pages and replaced with something else. Given that the internet has transformed so much of our lives, it has accelerated the speed at which these trends rise and fall.

You only need to explore the incredible rise in the profit margins of companies like online casinos to see how much the internet has transformed the world in which we live. With so many choices and a flourishing industry, you can find plenty of information regarding digital casinos and their prevalence. Click here for more information if you are interested in specific areas of digital casinos, such as sweepstakes casinos.

Anyway, today, we will look at the top trends in entertainment and see whether they are here to last or are just another fad.

    #1 – Podcasting

It seems like every man and his dog has a podcast these days. You can find podcasts for anything and everything, including:

    • Sports
    • Comedy
    • Finance
    • Cooking
    • Film Study
    • True crime

There are hundreds of other genres, too. This is just a glance at the topics you can expect to find.

Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington introduced podcasting to a large audience in the mid-2000s. However, in essence, a podcast is just a chat show that you construct yourself.

A few years ago, the idea was cutting-edge, and people were using their platforms to gain subscribers through YouTube and Patreon. It has become such a trend that there are thousands of podcasts and the market has become incredibly saturated.

    #2 – Streaming wars

With more platforms moving into the digital streaming realm, the latest TV series and movies are almost exclusively channeled through some big streaming platforms. For instance, Netflix is a gigantic company with hundreds of millions of customers and a billion-dollar annual turnover.

Despite Netflix being the largest provider, many other huge conglomerates have started moving into this entertainment area. The recent trend from around 2019 onwards is for companies such as Disney, Paramount+, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime to attempt to move into the sector to obtain some of the substantial available profits.

You will likely have witnessed these colossal corporations muscling in on this space and bringing out big-money releases. However, this might be one trend that reverses, as people currently have less disposable income and the idea of spending $150 a month on streaming services doesn’t sound too appetizing.

    #3 – Short videos

YouTube has dominated online video streaming for nearly 20 years. However, one of the leading trends right now is the emergence of short-length videos. Companies such as Vine had a great platform in the early 2010s and it didn’t look like there was much room for growth in this particular area of media and entertainment.

However, short videos are popular these days, following the explosive ascent of TikTok to become the number one social media platform for people under 30. With so many “TikTok challenges” going viral and so many people using the social media app, it is arguably the most significant trend we have seen over the last five years.

    #4 – Artificial intelligence (AI)

Toward the end of 2022 and early 2023, AI dominated the news when Microsoft announced a massive investment in ChatGPT. But, you may wonder, what does this have to do with entertainment? Well, there are a few reasons. ChatGPT and the rise in the sophistication of AI have resulted in media, pictures, and even stand-up comedy sets being performed by AI.

In terms of the practical use of AI, analysts predict it will become a key feature of programming voice-over technology and will streamline tailored services for individual customers who use streaming services and consume media in other forms. This is one trend we don’t see going away soon.

    #5 – Educational Entertainment

This overlaps with one of the other trends we have identified today. Due to the rise in popularity of short videos, podcasting, and streaming services, more people are turning to these avenues to educate themselves about niche topics and subjects that interest them.

We must add a disclaimer here that you should verify the source of information you find online, as misinformation across the internet is a huge problem. However, with that said, you can find plenty of informative videos and educational media on the internet. Whether this trend will continue or fizzle away remains to be seen.
