A24 has set a release date for their sports drama, The Iron Claw, starring Zac Efron and The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White.

Per Variety, the film will be released on December 22 and A24 is going wide with the project. Despite the prime award season spot on the calendar, The Iron Claw will be skipping the film festival circuit because the movie is currently in post-production. In celebration of announcing its release date, A24 has also unveiled a publicity still from the film which can be viewed below!

Written and directed by Sean Durkin, The Iron Claw is based on the true life of professional wrestler Kevin Von Erich (Efron) and the Von Erich family, a wrestling dynasty that made history in the sport during the early 1980s. They became known for the enormous success they gained with the iron claw professional wrestling hold, which involves the attacker gripping the top of the head of their opponent with one hand and squeezing the tips of their fingers into the opponent’s skull, thus applying five different points of pressure.

The family had to battle it out in the ring but they also dealt with personal tragedies that became known as the “Von Erich curse”, mostly because of the chain of events that saw many of the family members die due to tragic circumstances. In addition to Efron and Allen White, the film also stars Harris Dickinson, Holt McCallany, Maura Tierney, and Lily James.

The Iron Claw hits screens on December 22.
