The anticipation for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is high, and fans are eagerly awaiting its release on June 2. However, it seems the team behind the animated movie is already thinking ahead to the sequel, Beyond The Spider-Verse, scheduled for release in March 2024.

In an interview with SFX Magazine, co-director Kemp Powers hinted that Across The Spider-Verse ends on a cliffhanger, but it’s a satisfying one that sets up the third movie. Knowing that a third movie is already guaranteed has allowed the team to approach the story differently, with the knowledge that they can build towards a bigger picture.

Powers also revealed that there’s a lot of key characters in the second film, and they have their own arcs that needed to be completed. This means that while the film sets up the third one, it also stands on its own as a complete story.

Co-director Joaquim Dos Santos drew comparisons to The Empire Strikes Back, saying that he was very satisfied with how that film ended. However, fans of the Star Wars franchise will know that The Empire Strikes Back ended on a dark note, with Han Solo captured and Luke Skywalker discovering the shocking truth about his father. This comparison could mean that things won’t end well for Miles Morales and his friends in the second movie.

While fans will have to wait until June 2 to see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the news of a sequel will surely add to the excitement. The animated movie has already won fans over with its unique animation style, diverse cast of characters, and engaging storyline. With Beyond The Spider-Verse, the team has a chance to further explore this universe and bring even more beloved characters to the screen.

In a world where superhero movies dominate the box office, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse stands out as a fresh and exciting take on the genre. It’s no wonder fans are eagerly anticipating its release and looking forward to what the future holds for this franchise.
