After locating the Divine Blade, a shaman and a modern-day woman race through time to battle a powerful alien commander intent on destroying mankind in ALIENOID: RETURN TO THE FUTURE, Part II of Choi Dong-hoon’s epic sci-fi action franchise.
For in-depth thoughts on Alienoid: Return to the Future, please see my colleague Fritz Couture’s review from its original theatrical release here.
Video Quality
Alienoid: Return to the Future comes to Blu-Ray with a dazzling AVC-encoded 1080p transfer in 2.39:1. The film sports some sumptuous imagery immaculately on display thanks to this presentation. There is an inspiring level of detail in even the most nondescript elements of the background. The world builds upon what was established in its predecessor and expands it even further. The picture is clear with no major loss of shadow detail even in the most trying moments. Black levels are robust in their depth with only fleeting signs of banding. This dynamic film is filled with impressive colors in the costumes, lighting, and production design. Nearly every scene has something that makes an impact. Skin tones are natural throughout with some fantastic details present in certain shots. Well Go USA has done a great job with this presentation, although it would have been nice to have this one on 4K UHD Blu-Ray.
Audio Quality
The Blu-Ray disc comes with a dynamic DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio presentation in the original Korean that handles the wall-shaking action incredibly well. There is also a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio English dub provided, but we suggest you stick with the original audio. The directionality of sound never falters with this track, and dialogue comes through with distinct clarity. The tapestry of sounds is balanced capably during the action sequences including plenty of explosions and general destruction.
The track offers impeccable immersion into the space with the subtlest elements faithfully represented. A rich array of kinetic moments provides a momentous amount of activity in the low end. Speakers are a sonic knockout during the more intense clashes while providing a three-dimensional environment. The audio presentation brings this film to life without a hiccup. Optional English and French subtitles are provided.

Final Thoughts
Alienoid: Return to the Future is a massive, satisfying continuation of the breakneck story that kicked off a couple of years ago. The pace and editing remain all over the place, but the disorientation you feel is part of the charm of this exhilarating epic. Choi Dong-hoon has so many wild ideas he attempts to pack into this outing, and a good number of them pay off. The narrative can be a bit confusing, but if you give yourself over to the experience, you will delight in the sprawling scope, memorable characters, and uninhibited ambition. Well Go USA has released a Blu-Ray with a stellar A/V presentation but not much in the way of special features. If you enjoyed the first installment of this series, this maintains a similar level of quality. Recommended
Alienoid: Return to the Future will be available to purchase on Blu-Ray and DVD on July 30, 2024. The film is currently available on Digital platforms.
