The latest true crime case taking over the internet right now is the case of Caleb Flynn. News outlets have seemingly moved on from the controversial Lindsay Clancy case to the case of former American Idol contestant/pastor Caleb Flynn, who is accused of murdering his wife Ashley Flynn on February 16, 2026. Flynn originally told police that a home intruder shot his wife to death, but was arrested a few days later in connection with his wife’s murder.
At the center of this case? Alleigha Botner. A 24-year-old with whom 40-year-old Caleb was having an affair. Recently, during the ongoing trial; text message correspondence between Alleigha and Caleb was read aloud. Police say that the two had over 100,000 text messages with one another; most of it contained the two proclamations of love for one another, Alleigha’s growing resentment towards Ashley, as well as Caleb’s desire to see Ashley dead so he and Alleigha could be together.
In the recovered text messages between Alleigha and Caleb, both expressed their hatred for Ashley Flynn. Alleigha was pretty persistent in her urging of Caleb to leave his wife and hours before Ashley’s death, Caleb had texted Alleigha, “I choose you. I’m free. Actions will come tomorrow”. Alleigha testified that she interpreted Caleb’s words as meaning that he’d finally divorce Ashley, but is now convinced that the former pastor killed his wife. Caleb frequently told Alleigha that he dreamt of killing Ashley and would kill her if there was a way he’d get away with it.
Caleb’s defense argues that while Caleb was an unfaithful husband and has said some horrendous things, this is not evidence that he murdered his wife. The prosecution argues that the fact that his gun is missing and that his smartwatch shows activity during the time of the murder, when he claims he was sleeping, proves that he is the killer. The trial is still ongoing, so we do not have a verdict as of yet. According to the law, Caleb Flynn is innocent until proven guilty.
