We all know season nine of The Walking Dead will be Andrew Lincoln’s final season, but the promotion for the upcoming season is teasing it as “Rick’s final episodes”. It’s no surprise that Rick’s departure from the show is a big deal and will be heavily promoted.

Andrew Lincoln announced during SDCC that he’d leave:
“I love this show. It means everything to me. I love the people who make this show… I’m particularly fond of the people who watch the show. You people. This has been the most extraordinary, amazing, and beautiful experience of my career.”
Citing family reasons for leaving, Lincoln is hopeful his character will be written off similar to the way Morgan was, but considering Rick still has Michonne and Judith, I’m not sure how else he will leave the show other than being killed off.
The Walking Dead returns October 7th.
