Another Sunday, another episode of American Gods season three! We’re on the second episode of season three and in this episode, we learn a little more about Lakeside. Normally, the idea of a town where everyone knows your name kind of weirds me out. But, there’s something about Lakeside and how cheery everyone is. I think after how depressing 2020 was, we need a little happiness in our lives. And characters like Ann-Marie Hinzelmann and Chad Mulligan are so nice it’s almost surreal. No one’s that nice, though; right?
Slight Spoilers
Shadow is navigating Lakeside as we would. Trepidatious, skeptical if this is even real, but also slowly loving it at the same time. While Shadow’s getting acquainted with his new surroundings, Wednesday is back on his game trying to recruit gods for the war that most others are seemingly moving on from. Seasons one and two really stayed the course that this is a war and it’s constant. Season three is showing a pause in that constant motion. It’s taking a moment to recoup. And we get a glimpse at what other gods do when they’re not thrown into the constant flow of battle.
We also revisit something that happened in season two. Remember when Zorya was killed? Yea, we’re just having a funeral for her now. I think we’re reminded of how awesome Peter Stormare as Czernobog is. And a character from season one returns! I won’t tell you who, but it’s a great reunion between Shadow and this character.
Rating: 4/5
There’s a lot I can’t tell you about episode two due to requests from the press team of American Gods. But, just know that a lot happens and season three is wasting no time diving into some of the storylines that are going to last throughout the entirety of the rest of the episodes.
