[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”836″ img_size=”1440×595″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]The announcement that Sony’s upcoming movie Venom is rated PG-13 was trending on Twitter yesterday. Many fans wondered how a film that promoted a darker look into the Marvel universe be possible under a restricted rating? Venom is a dark, violent, dangerous anti-hero that we’re all looking forward to on screen. It would have been a fantastic opportunity to push an R-Rating. Deadpool and Logan favored well from an adult rating and although this does not make it kid-friendly, it would have been favored more with the adult fans awaiting the film.
There is a rumor now that Venom could possibly release an unrated version of the film down the line. An unrated home release would be a treat for fans, but for the initial theater release and reviews, what they’re going to see is the PG-13 movie. We’ll be judging the film on the PG-13 and we could have a case of another RoboCop, where the film needed to be R in order to really get across a decent film. Or we could start having an #ReleaseTheUnratedVenomCut hashtag trending, but it still wouldn’t change what fans see in the theaters when the movie is initially released.
How do you feel about the news that Venom, starring Tom Hardy; will be PG-13?
