‘Avengers: Endgame’ vs. ‘The Lion King’ – Who Will Win The Box Office?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”20291″ img_size=”800×450″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]We are only four months into 2019 and already, Disney is expected to break all sorts of box office records over the course of the next few months. This summer alone, Disney will be releasing Avengers: Endgame, Aladdin, Toy Story 4, and The Lion King as their entry for the summer blockbuster season. Though not much can be said for the other movies at the time of this posting, we have already seen how successful and how unprecedented advanced ticket sales have been for Avengers: Endgame. However, according to Comicbook.com, some box office analysts predict that the film “could receive some stiff competition from The Lion King, Jon Favreau’s live-action remake of the fan-favorite cartoon”.

Senior Analyst Jeff Brock from Exhibitor Relation Co. explains his theory: “The only thing that might even touch it [Avengers: Endgame] in terms of the worldwide box office, might be The Lion King, just because that is the crown jewel that the Disney animation has in their vault… We’ve seen how powerful it was back in the day, with John Favreau directing, there’s no doubt it could compete worldwide with Avengers: Endgame.”

Though The Lion King may dominate the box office for several weeks simply because of the nostalgic factor, Comicbook.com got the vibe that Brock does believe that Avengers: Endgame “will more than likely have the biggest opening of all-time — both domestically and worldwide — and that’s something that The Liong King won’t come close to touching.”

Analysts who have been paying close attention to the tracking numbers since the Endgame ticket pre-sales claim that they are all over the place, with some reports suggesting that “the Russo Brothers-directed film with open between $200m-$250m while others think it could be the first to ever break $300m domestically in its debut outing.”

To check out who will take over the box office, be sure to watch Avengers: Endgame when it opens on April 26th and The Lion King on July 19th.
