Gotham City is going global once again.
DC has revealed its plans for Batman Day 2026, with the annual celebration of the Dark Knight returning on Saturday, September 19, through comic book shops, digital platforms and fan events around the world.
This year’s centerpiece is Batman of Two Worlds, a special one-shot bringing two very different versions of Batman together inside a single publication.
One story comes from the main DC Universe and the other takes readers into the rapidly expanding Absolute Universe, giving fans two interpretations of Gotham’s protector while exploring how each Batman responds to a similar problem in very different ways.
Beyond the comic itself, DC is supporting Batman Day with new hardcover releases, collectible masks, free digital comics, LEGO Batman bonuses and events at thousands of participating retailers.
Batman Day 2026 Takes Place September 19
Batman Day has become DC’s annual opportunity for readers around the world to celebrate one of the most recognizable superheroes ever created.
This year’s event takes place September 19, with DC placing a particular emphasis on getting fans into their local comic book shops.
Participating retailers will carry Batman Day material while hosting their own combinations of giveaways, creator appearances, cosplay events and other activities.
The event is international, with publishers and stores throughout North America, Latin America, Europe and Japan taking part.
Batman Of Two Worlds Is The Centerpiece Of Batman Day
The biggest new release tied to the event is Batman of Two Worlds.
Priced at $2.99 in the United States, the one-shot will be available at participating comic book shops worldwide on Batman Day.
Rather than creating a traditional crossover where the two Batmen physically meet, the issue puts two different Batman stories side by side.
Matt Fraction and Javi Fernández handle the Batman story set within DC’s main continuity, while Scott Snyder and Nick Derington take readers into the Absolute Universe.
Tomeu Morey provides colors for Fraction and Fernández’s story, with Clayton Cowles lettering. Frank Martin colors Snyder and Derington’s Absolute Batman story, while Tom Napolitano handles letters.
The main cover brings the two worlds together with artwork by Jorge Jiménez, Nick Dragotta and Frank Martin.
Two Batmen Face The Same Basic Problem
The creative idea behind the issue is surprisingly straightforward.
Both stories revolve around theft.
What changes is how each Batman understands the crime and what his version of justice looks like when responding to it.
Snyder explained that the concept allowed the creative teams to examine what theft means within each world while showing how the two versions of Batman approach justice.
Fraction described the concept as essentially one problem with two different solutions.
That makes Batman of Two Worlds less about determining which Batman is better and more about showing what makes each interpretation unique.
Absolute Batman Has Given DC A Very Different Bruce Wayne
The comparison is especially interesting because Absolute Batman was intentionally designed to challenge familiar assumptions about the character.
DC’s main Bruce Wayne remains the billionaire vigilante readers have followed for decades, operating with enormous resources, sophisticated technology and the infrastructure he has built throughout Gotham.
The Absolute Universe removes many of those familiar advantages.
Absolute Batman is larger, more brutal and significantly less privileged, forcing Bruce to approach the same fundamental mission from a very different position.
Putting both interpretations into one inexpensive Batman Day release gives new readers a convenient opportunity to see why the two ongoing versions have developed such distinct identities.
Four Batman Masks Are Coming To Comic Shops
Fans visiting participating retailers can also find four collectible paper masks created specifically for Batman Day.
The characters and designs represented include:

Ryan Sook created all four masks while adapting the visual styles associated with Jorge Jiménez, Nick Dragotta, Jim Lee and Frank Miller.

Five Batman Hardcovers Arrive For Batman Day
DC is also using the celebration to spotlight five major hardcover collections.

Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez’s current Batman run receives its first hardcover collection, complete with a new Batman Day cover from Jiménez paying homage to Nick Dragotta’s Absolute Batman #1 cover.

Sam Hamm and Joe Quinones’ comic continuation of Tim Burton’s Batman universe arrives in hardcover with a Batman Day-exclusive dust jacket featuring artwork from the 1989 Michael Keaton film.
The release also includes a digital code for the movie.
Batman: H2SH Volume One

Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee’s continuation of their landmark Batman: Hush story receives its first hardcover volume.
The book will also receive day-and-date international publishing through partners in several markets, including Argentina, Bulgaria, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Poland and Finland, with additional releases planned elsewhere.

Frank Miller’s hugely influential Batman story returns in another deluxe hardcover featuring a new Raymond Swanland cover inspired by the animated adaptations.

Rafael Grampá’s visually distinctive interpretation of Gotham and its Dark Knight receives a deluxe hardcover edition, giving Batman Day another book representing a very different approach to the character.
DC UNIVERSE INFINITE Is Joining The Celebration
Batman Day isn’t limited to physical comic book shops.
DC UNIVERSE INFINITE will feature a curated collection of Batman comics that can be read for free during the celebration.
That collection includes Absolute Batman #1-3, giving anyone curious about Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta’s version of Bruce Wayne an easy place to begin.
The complete Batman: Wayne Family Adventures will also be available through DC GO!, DC’s mobile-friendly vertical-scrolling format.
Batman Day Includes Free LEGO Batman Items
DC UNIVERSE INFINITE is also partnering with WB Games for an in-game promotion connected to LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
Players who connect any DCUI subscription tier to their WB Games account can receive a Comic Rack Batcave Prop.
Premium DCUI subscribers—including Standard, Ultra and eligible free-trial members—can receive an additional Jarro Batcave Prop.

The celebration extends well beyond DC’s digital platforms.
Thousands of comic shops, bookstores, publishers and retail partners are participating internationally, with events ranging from creator signings and costume contests to charity initiatives and exclusive merchandise.

San Antonio
Heroes & Fantasies in San Antonio, Texas, will host Batman cosplay photo opportunities, local artists, giveaways and fundraising activities benefiting ComicBooks For Kids!
Austin
Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy in Austin will welcome Patricia Peters, who served as Michelle Pfeiffer’s stunt double in Batman Returns.
The event will also feature cosplay opportunities and a replica of the Tim Burton Batmobile.
Savannah
Neighborhood Comics in Savannah, Georgia, will hold a Gotham-themed cosplay contest featuring prizes for participating fans.
Buenos Aires
OVNI Press is planning a free nighttime Batman Day costume party featuring cosplay competitions, prizes, music and additional Batman-themed activities.
Italy
Panini Comics Italy will provide participating retailers with copies of Batman of Two Worlds, collectible masks, pin sets and promotional material.
Artist Corrado Roi will also participate in a signing appearance in Milan.
Brazil
Panini Brasil is planning exclusive Batman Day events, influencer activities, special releases and appearances from artist Alex Shibao.
Batman Day Is Also A Celebration Of Comic Shops
The strong emphasis on local retailers isn’t accidental.
Both Snyder and Fraction used the Batman Day announcement to highlight comic shops and the communities built around them.
Snyder described Batman Day as an opportunity for fans to celebrate the character together and talk about what Batman has meant to them personally.
Fraction went even further, saying he hopes Batman of Two Worlds encourages people not merely to visit their comic shop on Batman Day, but to keep returning afterward.
That may ultimately be the most important part of the event.
Batman can be encountered almost everywhere at this point. He’s in movies, television, animation, video games, toys and merchandise across the world.
But everything still traces back to comics.
