Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

    Director: Zack Snyder

Cast: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Gal Gadot,

Fearing that the actions of Superman are left unchecked, Batman takes on the Man of Steel, while the world wrestles with what kind of a hero it really needs. – IMDB

Batman v Superman was the movie everyone was hoping to be the best in the superhero genre, but instead many people criticized it and it left a fanbase divided. Talking about how overcrowded the film was, Jesse Eisenberg being a terrible Lex Luthor, Batman being a murder machine, the infamous Martha scene, and the inclusion of Doomsday.

“20 years in Gotham Alfred, we’ve seen what promises are worth, how many good guys are left? How many stay that way.” – Bruce Wayne

Why was the film overcrowded? For me, Zack Snyder is one of the biggest comic book fans and you can tell from Man of Steel, but that can also be a curse. Batman V Superman is proof of this, it draws way too much from Frank Millers Batman which is not the problem but the fact Zack Snyder but the fact that Zack Snyder had to add the death of Superman in Batman v Superman was a terrible mistake and I feel like should have been done in a later movie.

“Nobody cares about Clark Kent taking on the Batman!” – Perry White

The 2015 SSDC Batman v Superman trailer was the best trailer that year and probably still the best trailer till this day. Giving us hype of Batman fighting Superman ideologies clashing and in the middle of the Lex Luthor pulling the stings. In that respect, it would have been so much better than Captain America: Civil War because it would have fewer side characters meaning more time to develop the ultimate fight the trailer was trying to set up (Side note I love Captain America: Civil War). I would not mind seeing another Batman v Superman film again, this time without that terrible design of doomsday and put more emphasis on the ideology of both Superman and Batman also Lex Luthor.

Many people biggest problem was Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. For me, the problem was not Jesse Eisenberg’s acting but Zack Snyder’s decision of how the character should be portrayed. Do not get me wrong Zack Snyder is not a bad director but for me, it wasn’t the right character choice for Jesse Eisenberg. Zack Snyder should have stuck with Lex Luthor and not Lex Luthor Jr. in my opinion.

And now, you will fly to him, and you will battle him.. To the death… Black and blue, Fight Night!, The greatest gladiator match in the history of the world… God vs. Man.. Day vs. Night.. Son of Krypton vs. Bat of Gotham! – Lex Luthor

They are so many people complaining that Batman Kills in Batman V Superman, which they are not wrong, but saying that this is the worst Batman ever is a bit hypocritical taken the fact that all the Live Action Batman has killed.

In all honesty, all of the performances were magnificent in Batman v Superman. We got the perfect portrayal of Batman by Ben Affleck. While watching Ben Affleck act in this role all I could see was  Frank Millers Batman the best portrayal of Superman from Henry Cavill as Superman. I might be the only one that thinks this but I really love Amy Adams as Louis Lane she pulls off the attitude and confidence, I also have a weak spot for Amy Adams. Jeremy Irons as Alfred was the perfect yin to Batman yang I would say. Every snobby remark was hilarious but true in all honesty Alfred might have been my second favorite character after Batman.

Maybe some girl from Metropolis will make you honest……in your dreams, Alfred! – Alfred

Despite the flaws Batman v Superman has, personally, it was an enjoyable movie. Do I wish it was better? YES I do, but we got what we got and we should all move on now especially since we are getting a great director, Matt Reeves for Batman and it seems that Warner Bros is letting the people working on the films do what they do best. Look at Aquaman and now SHAZAM looks like it is going to be a financial success, audience and critic success too. So let us have hope for the future of the DCEU.

    Score: B
