Benedict Cumberbatch to Return as Doctor Strange in Spider-Man 3

Dr. Stephen Strange may not be the warmest people in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it looks like Peter Parker has a trend of gaining ‘rough around the edges’ mentors. Stepping into the role previously filled by Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark and Samuel L. Jackson, Benedict Cumberbatch will play Tom Holland’s Spider-Man’s mentor. In Spider-Man 3. Reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Yes, you heard that right. In an exclusive from THR, Cumberbatch will be joining the highly anticipated third MCU Spider-Man film. To be fair, I do think this is a great dynamic. Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatch seem to have great on-screen chemistry together. They had minor interactions with each other in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Tony Stark had previously been considered the most “arrogant” character in the MCU. That was until Dr. Strange stepped onto the scene (I do love both FYI). So, why not have him take up the mantle left behind by Tony Stark’s death? Peter Parker has had Tony, Nick Fury, and Happy. He does well with these gruffer older mentors.

Also, it should be mentioned – Dr. Strange’s sequel is called the Multiverse of Madness. As you can guess, it’s going to help craft the multiverse. What a better way to inadvertently explain Jami Foxx’s return as Electro than say there’s a multiverse. Foxx played the character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – which starred Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.
