    Video Quality

Best Christmas Movies Ever! makes its Blu-Ray debut via the MVD Rewind Collection with a 1080p transfer featuring an array of materials in varying degrees of quality. The base transfer of the film itself and everything within it looks as technically wonderful as you would wish for in high definition. The disc is not overloaded with too much material, so it avoids nearly all compression artifacts and other digital nuisances of the sort. The movie clips used appear to be the best versions that were available when this was created, with most of them looking quite good. Interview segments look crisp and clear with natural skin tones and discrete facial features on display. The holiday colors featured in some of the clips saturate the frame with a really nice vibrance. MVD Entertainment has delivered a strong presentation for this one.

    Audio Quality

MVD Entertainment brings us a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that represents this feature without a hiccup. The movie clips retain their quality well, even if it is a slightly more reserved experience than watching the same scene within the context of the film. The surround sound presentation is immersive while maintaining the artistic choice of the film. This is mostly an interview showcase with talking heads, so dialogue is the focus right up front in the center channel. The surround channels get some ambient noise on occasion, which makes the soundscape feel a bit more expansive, but overall the track is more conservative. The track will put you in a holly jolly mood. Optional English SDH subtitles are provided.

    Special Features

    • Audio Commentary: Director Mark A. Altman and producer Scott Mantz provide a commentary track in which they dive into the background of producing this film including the decisions on which movies to include, behind-the-scenes details about filming the interviews, movies that were included to please key executives, and much more. They also share some holiday memories from their own lives.
    • Deleted/Extended Scenes: A 29-minute collection of unused footage from the film is provided.
    • Live at Galaxycon: A 41-minute look at the panel for the film in which director Mark A. Altman  discusses the movie in broad terms while also revealing details about getting it ready for broadcast standards.
    • Original Theatrical Trailer: The minute-and-a-half-long trailer is provided for Best Christmas Movies Ever! The disc also features trailers for other MVD releases including 1982: The Greatest Geek Year Ever, Jack Frost, 5-25-77, and The Go-Go Boys.
    • Poster: A fold-out poster of the cover art is included in the case.

    Final Thoughts

Best Christmas Movies Ever! is a loving blend of walking down memory lane and soaking up new information from charismatic individuals. This style of documentary is far from unique, but it can be a lot of fun if you are interested in the subject. Christmas movies are the films that we tend to rewatch most often due to the “tradition” aspect, which also leads to them having a lot of deep emotions wrapped up in them. It is heartening to engage with them in this new way, and we will be filling out our watchlist this year with some of the deep cuts mentioned here. MVD Entertainment has delivered a Blu-Ray with a strong A/V presentation and a valuable selection of special features. If you are not a grinch, you should have a blast with this one. Recommended

Best Christmas Movies Ever! is currently available to purchase on Blu-Ray.
