Birds of Prey Will Be a Standalone Movie, Won’t Follow Up Suicide Squad

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”28613″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn made her debut in 2016’s Suicide Squad, but Birds of Prey is a standalone movie instead of a follow-up. Speaking with Screen Rant, screenwriter Christina Hodson stated that Birds of Prey will stand on its own:

“It’s a character we have met before, but it’s really its own story, and that’s kind of how I approached it. I just tried to take myself off-leash. I fell in love with this character, and then all of these other new characters. And I just created a brand new story that felt like its own thing, and that doesn’t have to feel like it follows one or the other.”

It’s always good to know that those who are behind the scenes in the making of a film feel free, but this does seemingly look like another means of DC movies distancing themselves from any sort of cognitive continuation. Even Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker movie is a complete standalone, with those behind the film definitively stating how they were not worried about trying to remain tied to any sort of comic book restriction.

With Birds of Prey acting as a standalone movie, we can safely assume that it won’t have anything to do with James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad? It may as well seem that we will have three movies with the same actors, similar characters, and nothing tying them in between.

What do you think of this and are you excited for Birds of Prey?
