Some began to wonder if we ever might see Johnson in the role especially since it’s been teased might be up for a role as Namor and he has wanted to meet with Marvel’s Kevin Feige. Johnson himself confirmed that filming on Black Adam would indeed begin in 2020 after he completes filming on Red Notice.
Speaking with ComicBook, Hiram Garcia confirmed that filming would begin once Johnson has wrapped Red Notice. Johnson himself also gave some insight on Black Adam’s journey and what fans can expect from the character.
“Black Adam, how he starts, he starts off as a villain, Then, he becomes an anti-hero. And then he might become a hero or we might not.”
Garcia who is producer on the film delved deeper into Black Adam’s details, confirming director Jaume-Collet Serra is indeed shooting the film and that they have other crew being assembled. Johnson has not fitted for the costume but they have a design for the suit.
Garcia told ComicBook more details surrounding the film and its titular character
“Well, you’re going to meet is you’re going to meet a character who’s going through a journey, And I think the idea is, look, we know the root of obviously Black Adam. He was created as a villain. And through the love of the fans and through some great writers and storytellers, he evolved into an antihero. The antihero is a character that we always loved and that we responded to. But we understand that there’s been many aspects to Black Adam through him. But ultimately this is a guy who he does have a moral compass as skewed as it may be. And ultimately he is a guy that everything has always been driven by his family and what happens to them. And he is never opposed to unleashing hell when you cross him. So I think when you add in those elements of that DNA, those are things we’re very aware of.”
Johnson is a very busy man but it’s good to hear he is still committed to the role and with the all that has gone on behind the scenes at DC, it’s even greater news. Here is to hoping filming gets started next year as planned.
