Following the lackluster performance of last year’s The Exorcist: Believer, Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum has provided a cautious but optimistic update on the next installment, tentatively titled The Exorcist: Deceiver. The franchise, which had initially aimed to reboot with a trilogy, faced setbacks after the disappointing reviews and underwhelming box office numbers for its predecessor.

Directed by David Gordon Green, The Exorcist: Believer failed to impress both critics and audiences, leading to the departure of Green from the planned sequel and the removal of the movie from the release calendar. Universal Pictures had acquired the franchise’s worldwide rights for a substantial $400 million, making the underwhelming performance even more pronounced.

In a recent interview with The Direct, Jason Blum shed light on the status of “The Exorcist: Deceiver.” While there’s no official release date in sight, Blum confirmed that another Exorcist movie is in the works. However, he expressed the need for more time to craft a compelling narrative and direction for the film, admitting uncertainty about its specific details.

“We are definitely going to make another Exorcist movie, but I wanted more time to figure out what it would be. I have no idea what it’s going to be yet.”

Blum’s cautious approach suggests a deliberate effort to learn from the shortcomings of the previous installment and ensure that the next Exorcist film resonates with both critics and audiences. The acknowledgment of needing more time to shape the narrative hints at a commitment to quality over rushed production.

As fans await further details and a potential release date, Blumhouse seems determined to revive and reimagine The Exorcist franchise. The mystery surrounding The Exorcist: Deceiver leaves room for speculation and anticipation, as horror enthusiasts hope for a revitalized and captivating addition to this iconic horror series. Stay tuned for more updates on the future of “The Exorcist” and Blumhouse’s plans to breathe new life into this classic tale of demonic possession.
