Plot: A “spiritual sequel” to the 1992 horror film ‘Candyman’ that returns to the now-gentrified Chicago neighborhood where the legend began.
- Let’s talk about the utilization of “Say My Name” by Destiny’s Child first. Wow. Jordan Peele used “I Got 5 On It” last year to elevate “Us” to the next level. I can only imagine what he will do with this song throughout the film.
- The opening sequences inside the school bathroom will probably haunt kids for the rest of their lives. I love how they felt the need to “mock” the saying of CANDYMAN and of course it didn’t end well for them.
- The creepiness and scares. CANDYMAN CANDYMAN CANDYMAN CANDYMAN… I refuse to type it a fifth time because I don’t need him appearing at my front door tonight. But man, the trailer just seems like it is going to be creepy, scary and most importantly DEADLY!!!!
Overall Thoughts: Jordan Peele’s name alone has my attention anymore after Get Out & Us but the trailer delivered in a HUGE way. The score/song, the acting, the scares, I AM ALL IN. The combination of Peele and DaCosta looks like we are going to have a smash-hit on our hands.
Side note: Let’s get Nia DaCosta’s name out in the world. Jordan Peele is part-writer and producer but DaCosta is directing this thing and helped write it as well.

Family, Faith, Film and Football.
