As matter of full disclosure, I am a big Harry Potter fan. I have read all the books and seen all the Harry Potter films but I have not as yet seen Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. That means I have some catching up to do. Especially since Warner Bros. has released the official Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald character descriptions that offer new insight into the story of the next Harry Potter prequel.

Audiences who love the the Harry Potter universe can return to J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World when Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters this fall. Unlike Harry Potter, fans may know little about where this franchise is heading, since they aren’t based a particular book, but the latest character descriptions offer new details on Newt Scamander’s next adventures.

Highlights of the descriptions include the fact that when the film begins, Newt Scamander will have already published his Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them book that made him famous. Tina is on a secret and unauthorized mission in Paris to seek out Credence after the American wizard has learned to harness his Obscurial ability. Meanwhile, Queenie is breaking several magical rules in an attempt to find a way for her and Jacob to stay together, including reading his mind which opens the door to other problems.

In addition, it is revealed that Albus Dumbledore enlists Newt Scamander’s help in thwarting Grindelwald’s plot because he is unable to do so himself, for reasons known only to him. The villainous wizard’s plot involves setting up a new base of operations in Paris as he recruits more wizard’s in his mission to rule over non-magical people, though some are not fully aware of his intentions. (This sounds somewhat familiar).

Elsewhere, Credence arrives in Paris searching for his real mother in hopes of learning his true identity.  He is joined in this search by a friend named Maledictus, the star attraction of a wizarding world circus and the carrier of a blood curse that will permanently transform her into a beast. Other new characters introduced  include Leta Lestrange, an old friend of Newt who works at the British Ministry of Magic. She is the assistant to Torquil Travers and is currently engaged to Newt’s older brother, Theseus Scamander.

The full descriptions of these characters and more can be found at Collider.
