Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Review

I’m not going to pretend like I know everything about Sabrina. I know it started from the Archie comics and it was a tv series in 1996 and I watched some of the episode with my mom while I was younger, but other than that I have no knowledge.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is pretty good! Many people including my self were a little skeptical going on, but after that first episode I was drawn right in! Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is about a half Witch and Half mortal given a chance to decide on her 16th birthday (Dark Baptism) if she would rather have a life with the Mortals or Witches.

The Opening credits!

The opening credits of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina were very creative with beautiful art and score. When I’m on Netflix watching a show I usually skip the credits, but for Sabrina I couldn’t help but watch the credits every single time. The opening credits defiantly shows the mood and the setting of the series.

Satanic Imagery

This new series is most differently different from the 1996 series by a long shot. Does that make it a bad thing? I don’t think so. I feel like it just makes the series feel fresh, but I can understand those that don’t feel the same. It isn’t very much a horror series in the traditional since, but it is very deep with dark, satanic imagery that are very horrifying.

Themes

Throughout the whole series the whole overall theme of the story is basically about Women empowerment. The one reason why Sabrina is against the signing of her to the Book of the Beast is because she would basically be a slave to Satin, but Sabrina being strong and independent doesn’t want to be ruled by any man. She wants to be free and have power.

Should she live her life as a human or live her life as a witch? Many time Sabrina has questioned why she has to sign her name to the beast, but non have given a good reason they were all just raised to believe that they have too. Sabrina came to the conclusion that she would rather have both.

Actors – Actress/Character

Every single actress and actor did a great job in their specific roles.

Each supporting character had their own little side story that gave each them amazing characterization. Minor spoiler! In the episode of the Sleep demon we got to see each other their darkest dreams, which was a perfect way to get know the family in a deeper since.

For me the worst character was Sabrina’s girlfriend Harvey I didn’t get much from him, but to only hold Sabrina back from her true potential. I get that he was the love interest of Sabrina, but I don’t understand why she loved him so much what made him so special?

Roseland and Susie, I really enjoyed their storyline together figuring out their heritage, creating WIICA (Women’s Intersectional Cultural and Creative Association) and learning who Sabrina is.

What I wanted was more of Sabrina working together with her friends, but that wasn’t a big deal.

Great show overall! Netflix has been killing lately especially with horror.
