Chris Evans Talks Stepping Back From Captain America Role and Retirement Rumors

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”18623″ img_size=”800×450″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]While we don’t know who is going to make it out of Avengers: Endgame alive, we do know that this film will be Captain America actor Chris Evans’s last installment as the iconic hero. It’s been an amazing run and we’ll miss Evans as Cap, but we certainly understand the logic behind leaving a legacy that every Marvel and comic-book fan will remember.

As it happens often with the internet, Evans’s announcement that he was “retiring” from the MCU turned into a rumor that he was retiring from acting altogether. Which, couldn’t be true considering he’s going to be in a new show on the Apple upcoming limited series called Defending Jacob. Not only this, but he’s in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, as well as in talks to star in Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming project.

During an extensive interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Evans addressed this false rumor:

“I never said the word ‘retire,'” he says. “It’s a really obnoxious notion for an actor to say they’re going to retire — it’s not something you retire from.”

Along with an already packed resume, Evans has upcoming projects, and has even expressed that he’d love to direct more. Doesn’t really sound like a man ready to retire from acting. We hope that this clarifies any confusion – Evans is completing his story as Captain America, which is something that other actors will be doing as well, since we know Marvel is looking to “retire” some of their longer running heroes in order to make way for the newer generation.

He added:

“Momentum is a real fallacy, in my opinion,” he says. “But it has a really strong hold on a lot of actors’ mentalities. You really believe that while the ball’s rolling, you gotta keep it rolling. I could be wrong, but to me — I just don’t believe in that. I don’t think that’s real.”

He then joked:

“My last cover interview.”

You can catch Evans in Avengers: Endgame which hits theaters on April 26th.
