Grab the snacks, grab the popcorn, grab the drinks: family movie night has arrived. This article dives into must-watch, family-friendly movies, whether that family includes a full house with kids or a person and their cat.
We’ll remember to include cinematic masterpieces from all genres; no boredom allowed! Tune in, keep reading, and enjoy these family movies!
- Toy Story
Let’s begin with the powerhouse for children’s movies: Pixar. We know this animation studio for other kids’ movies like Finding Nemo. Pixar continues to create classic movies for children, today.
Luckily, adults can enjoy, too! Currently, Toy Story has 3 other sequels, but we’ll stick with the classic, here. It begins with a toy cowboy named Woody and his other toy friends rescuing a trapped Buzz Lightyear from the toy-wrecking neighbor, Sid. This movie packs action, friendship, and adventure all in one! Certainly a classic that will go “to infinity and beyond!”
- A Christmas Story
Let’s take a step back from the animation world and step into the real one for a minute. Enjoy A Christmas Story all year round! This classic film revolves around a 9-year-old boy named Ralphie who wants a Red Ryder BB gun. Unfortunately, things turn out a bit more complicated than that. Peer pressure, family drama, and good, old-fashioned humor await in this holiday tale.
- The Wizard of Oz
This old cinematic delight loosely originates from L. Frank Baum’s written masterpiece. The movie, while significantly differing from its original, features magic, dancing, and music.
Follow Dorothy and her friends as they travel to meet the wondrous Oz so that he can fulfill their greatest desires. After all, there’s no place like home.
- Kiki’s Delivery Service
All right, back to animation! The director, writer, and producer for this film remains none other than Hayao Miyazaki. Kiki’s Delivery Service features a young witch and a cat, following their adventures delivering various packages. What more to ask for than that?
- The Little Rascals
Let’s dive into some humor, eh? The Little Rascals centers around some middle school-aged boys and their “He-Man Womun Haters Club.” However, we end up watching a young boy try to win over a young girl’s heart, some other boys doing what they can to raise money after their clubhouse falls apart, and scrambling to win a race.
We rank this as a great coming-of-age film, bound for smiles, laughter, and nostalgia, so much so, that we’ve included the little rascals cast now.
