Coming Soon to Dark Horse: ‘Mike Mignola The Quarantine Sketches‘

Making a Difference

As everyone has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic, comic creators have used the extra time to continue their creative endeavors. In some cases, they have taken the results of those creative muses and used them for the greater good. Such was the case when Hellboy creator Mike Mignola decided to do some sketches and auction them off for a good cause. He chose the Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen. Chef Andrés’ has been sending food to those in need for a long time.

Mike Mignola The Quarantine Sketches

Of course, being prolific, Mike ended up with a large amount of work. Now Dark Horse is putting together a collection of Mike’s pandemic drawings for a book that will also benefit the World Central Kitchen. Mike explains why he chose to support Chef Andrés work.

I started out doing these sketches just as a way to take my mind off the pandemic. But as they piled up, it became clear that we had to do SOMETHING with them. My wife, Christine, suggested donating to World Central Kitchen. José Andrés has been doing an amazing job getting food topeople in need for a very long time. Now we are very happy to be doing what we can to help him with that.”

Appreciating Mike’s Work

The book itself will feature an introduction by Chistine Mignola, alongside sketches of Hellboy and  beloved and unexpected pop culture characters. In addition, there are macabre chess pieces, gothic vegetable creatures, strange vampires, and more. As for Chef Andrés, he is please that Mike has chosen to continue their relationship to help feed those less fortunate.

I love Mike’s drawings. We’re so grateful for his support and continuous effort this year raising awareness and money for World Central Kitchen. WCK was founded by Andrés in 2010. It is a non-profit organization that uses the power of food to heal communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis and beyond. Since its inception, WCK has served more than 40 million fresh meals to people impacted by natural disasters and other crises around the world. They have reached countries including The Bahamas, Indonesia, Lebanon, Mozambique, Venezuela, and the United States. During the Covid-19 pandemic, WCK has distributed more than 25 million fresh meals in 300+ cities and towns across the United States and Spain.
