If you’ve been a fan of the AMC hit show The Walking Dead, then you have seen the most shocking season-opening, in season seven, when we were not only given a proper introduction to Negan, but also a gruesome farewell to some characters. The previous season’s finale had left us hanging, not knowing who Negan was going to pick to receive the barbed wired baseball bat of death’s wrath. When it was Abraham chosen to be mercilessly killed by Lucille (the baseball bat), we all had a moment where we thought Glenn was in the clear. In the comics, Glenn was the one killed, but this time around we had Abraham sacrificed. So, Glenn was okay, right?

Wrong. In a shocking twist, Daryl gets up to punch Negan, an action that causes Negan to react. NEeding to show Rick’s group who really was the boss, he also kills Glenn. Not only was this a horrific moment to watch, as Glenn’s eyeball was literally popped out of its socket, but we now are left with the realization that Maggie is left alone, pregnant, and having to have just witnessed her beloved husband bashed to death. There’s no possible way anyone could ever forgive the man who is responsible. After all, we saw how Rick’s decision to spare Negan in season eight’s finale sat with Maggie and we assume this will be the cause for some major tension between the two leaders in season nine.

According to Lauren Cohan at the San Diego Comic Con Walking Dead panel, we’ll have to wait and see if this is something that could potentially happen. She was very careful to not reveal too much, but did bring up that it is a question Maggie will have to face. We all know how we would react in that situation, but does that ever really come true when actually faced with that situation.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the man behind Negan; the former leader of the Saviors will have the opportunity to interact with characters that he had never done so before, “Negan’s also getting an opportunity to interact with some people that are up on this stage that he hasn’t really had the chance to interact with before, which I think has been super fun for myself and Negan.”

We know that Maggie will leave the ninth season in its 6th episode, so if there was to be a Maggie/Negan interaction, it’s going to happen in the first half of the season. In #174 issue of The Walking Dead comics, Negan does, in fact, interact with Maggie after being freed from his prison. After having much time to dwell on the mistakes of his past and confronting the new villains, the Whisperers; Negan apologizes to the widow and in fact, encourages her to kill him. She decides to then walk away, stating he must live with what he’s done. Honestly, Maggie is such a legend, I really need for this to happen in the show.

Remember, this is both Lauren Cohan and Andrew Lincoln’s last season.

The Walking Dead will premiere its ninth season October 7th.
