Although it’s strictly in the planning stages, it is possible that ALF may be making a return to TV. Warner Bros TV is exploring a possible reboot of the popular ’80s alien sitcom as reported by Deadline. The original series centered on a “small, furry, arrogant extraterrestrial from the planet Melmac with a taste for cats, who’s taken in by an average American family.” Written by Murray Chapman, the NBC series ran for four seasons , from 1986-90. It’s popularity was in spite of the fact it’s main star was a puppet. Alf (Alien Life Force) was performed by Paul Fusco, who co-created the show with Tom Pritchett. A search is currently underway for a writer and as of the initial reporting by Deadline, Warner Bros. TV has declined to comment at this time.
The series starred Max Wright as Willie Tanner, Anne Schedeen as Kate Tanner and Andrea Elson and Benji Gregory as their children, Lynn and Brian. Although the show has been off the air for almost 30 years, it has remained a part of pop culture and has been referenced by many current films and shows including The Simpsons, Family Guy, The Big Bang Theory, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Deadline’s sister site TVLine was first to report the news.
Senior Writer at GeekVibesNation – I am a 60 something child of the 70’s who admits to being a Star Trek/Star Wars/Comic Book junkie who once dove headfirst over a cliff (Ok, it was a small hill) to try to rescue his Fantastic Four comic from a watery grave. I am married to a lovely woman who is as crazy as I am and the proud parent of a 21-year-old young man with autism. My wife and son are my real heroes.
