Harris could potentially play Shriek, who was introduced in Spider-Man Unlimited No. 1 in 1993. With her introduction, a Maximum Carnage story line kicked off that included a showdown between Spider-Man, Venom, and Carnage and Shriek. Is this where we are leading to?
In the comics, Shriek is happily paired up with Carnage and more than willing to help him in his quest for bloodshed. It seems like Sony might be setting up the right players for this kind of story line, though; whether Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will be involved is yet to be seen.
In the comics, Shriek and Carnage aka Kasady have almost a Joker/Harley Quinn relationship. While Shriek loves Kasady and has the idea that they could be a family unit, Carnage is incapable of love. Carnage is often abusive towards Shriek, despite how loyal she is to him. While Carnage may be violent and imposing, Shriek’s powers are that of a terrible sound that created sonic blasts and sonic fields, both of which weaken symbiotes like Venom and Carnage.
It will be interesting to see how big of a role Shriek has or if this is more so setting up for something like Maximum Carnage later on. If Harris is simply a love interest, it is likely that the public probably won’t like the idea of it, considering how poor of a reaction the last live-action version of Joker and Harley Quinn’s relationship got. Either way, Shriek can hold her own and we’re hoping she is made more bad ass and is depicted as an equal rather than a sidekick. After all, it was Shriek’s powers that helped usher in the worst in people and Sony keeps her powers the same, it’s possible she could manipulate Eddie Brock and Venom.
