Norman Lear produced the original film and has signed a new deal with Sony. Tony Vinciquerra, Sony’s CEO; commented on the interest from an unnamed party of The Princess Bride:
“We have so many people coming to us saying, ‘We want to remake this show or that show’. Very famous people whose names I won’t use, but they want to redo The Princess Bride. Some people want to do animated versions of some of the sitcoms. Not a month goes by when we don’t have an idea coming from some very big name wanting to do things with Norman.”
The Princess Bride had become somewhat of a cult classic, despite it not initially having much success when released. I know that there will certainly be an uproar if the movie is remade, but it might be fun fan-casting these famous roles. Maybe we could even get Cary Elwes to return? What do you think?
