The Criterion Collection has announced seven new titles to join the collection on 4K UHD and Blu-Ray in April: Ugetsu (1953), Some Like It Hot (1959), Chungking Express (1994), Jean De Florette/Manon Of The Spring: Two Films By Claude Berri (1986), Prince of Broadway (2008), Anora (2024), and Basquiat (1996). These represent an exquisite ghost story directed by Kenji Mizoguchi, one of the funniest films of all time, a defining work of 1990s cinema, a sprawling tale of greed and betrayal amid the French countryside, a moving exploration of the illusory nature of the American dream, a whirlwind anti–Cinderella story, and Julian Schnabel’s impressionistic portrait of a celebrated artist. Synopsis: By the time he made Ugetsu, Kenji Mizoguchi was already an elder statesman of Japanese cinema, fiercely revered by Akira Kurosawa and other directors of a younger generation. Synopsis: The whiplash, double-pronged Chungking Express is one of the defining works of 1990s cinema and the film that made Wong Kar Wai an instant icon.
