The Criterion Collection has announced six new titles to join the collection on 4K UHD and Blu-Ray in June: The Tales of Hoffman (1951), Farewell Amor (2020), Rouge (1987), Shaft (1971), The Worst Person In The World (2021) and Pink Flamingos (1972). These represent a Technicolor spectacle from Michael Powell and Emeric Pressbuger, a stunning directorial debut, a romantic ghost story, a blaxploitation action-hero epic, an international Oscar contender and the the filthiest, trashiest film on the Nation Film Registry. The Tales Of Hoffman
Street Date: June 7, 2022
Synopsis: Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger create a phantasmagoric marriage of cinema and opera in this one-of-a-kind take on a classic story. In Jacques Offenbach’s fantasy opera The Tales of Hoffmann, a poet dreams of three women—a mechanical performing doll, a bejeweled siren, and the consumptive daughter of a famous composer—all of whom break his heart in different ways. Powell and Pressburger’s feverishly romantic adaptation is a feast of music, dance, and visual effects, and one of the most exhilarating opera films ever produced.
