DC Announces Brand New Comic Event ‘DCeased’

DC Comics has recently announced a brand new event series coming from Tom Taylor, best known for his work on DC’s own Injustice series and his work on Marvels X-Men Red, with artwork from Trevor Hairsine, James Harren, and Stefano Gaudiano. Taylor himself has been dropping teasers for the event for up to a week now, hinting that the comic will be even more intense than his Injustice series, based off the brutal fighting game which shares its name.

Here is the event’s official synopsis:

“A mysterious techno-virus has been released on Earth, infecting 600 million people and turning them instantly into violent, monstrous engines of destruction. The heroes of the DCU are caught completely unprepared for a pandemic of this magnitude and struggle to save their loved ones first…but what happens to the World’s Greatest Heroes if the world ends? New York Times best-selling writer Tom Taylor (Injustice) returns with a terrifying new tale and is joined by artist Trevor Hairsine (Legends of the Dark Knight) and Stefano Gaudiano (The Walking Dead).”

DCeased

Taylor has given fans a glimpse at three gritty cover arts, one of which can be seen above, and all of which seem to show the caped crusader himself as the main protagonist, if not for the whole series then at least for the debut issue. A look through Taylors tweets shows some suggestion that both Superman and Darkseid may also play an important part in ‘DCeased’.

It is currently unknown if ‘DCeased’ takes place in the main DC Comics continuity or is an alternate universe story similar to Injustice, which seems a little more likely. Keen-eyed comic fans will have already spotted similarities between this and Marvels own ‘Marvel Zombies’ line in which the heroes of the Marvel universe traveled to a version of earth which had been overrun with the undead. Despite the stories having roughly the same premise ‘DCeased’ appears to be heading more into the brainwashed, mind-control region of comics rather than the undead variety.

‘DCeased’s’ debut issue is set to release on May 1st and you can expect more news to be announced as we draw closer to the first issues release date.
