The story of Hawkman is a long one and we know that he has been through many lives before. Does he remember all of them? Not clearly. Thankfully, he’s taken notes. So, he reads.
We are then transported to one of Carter’s past lives. And then another, and another, and another. All throughout the various years, he seems to end up on the same battlefield. And he’s killed the same way. On Nebulen, There was a war that waged. Year after year. Neverending. Stuck in an endless loop. We see the same scene essentially played out and the battle finally ends with a poignant gesture.
It is a nice story that we are being told in Hawkman #13. An important one. Almost one that could be applied to conflicts we see today. And we see a legacy that Carter had involvement in, which is interesting to see him revisit. Where this journey into the past and ultimately the present will lead him, we don’t know. What Carter learned from revisiting, we don’t know either.
But, it’s a good issue that gives us background in an important storyline in Carter’s past. How this will translate to the next issue we will have to see. I can’t imagine it not having any relevance at all.
