Freedom Fighters #2 is a real deal American, patriotic issue that will truly inspire. In an era of political unrest such as we are in, something as hopeful as this comic series is something greatly needed. When we are feeling beaten down and forced to see how much those are suffering around us on the news, it’s within Freedom Fighters, as it’s always been with comic books; that we can find our strength to reflect the heroes we read on the pages.
Freedom Fighters #2 is action-packed and high-energy, really bringing us into the fight. While it could seem at first that the names of these heroes are a little on the nose, you realize that this kind of bold patriotism is an act of rebellion in the face of the oppressors. I felt particularly moved in one part where the narration stated that children too young wouldn’t remember heroes and those too old most likely forgot; and then to have them all watch as these heroes fight for them.
But, not everything is going to be okay just yet, as it seems that the oppressor’s hold is strong and they too are relentless. The issue leaves off with a daunting feeling that the fight is far from over and our faithful heroes will have a lot to go up against in the next issue. Freedom Fighters #2 was a highly enjoyable series and this is a series that I would love to see adapted or at the very least, be brought in an almost Watchmen style, as they most likely would not do well next to such superheroes as Wonder Woman and Superman. Still, this is a story that is very relatable to life now and seeing the enemy taken down is something that we can all enjoy.
