DC Review: Shazam! #5

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”21600″ img_size=”411×623″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]It’s always spectacular seeing Black Adam enter into the arena of the Shazam! story. Our issue begins with Black Adam searching for the person who he deems most unworthy of the title Shazam and of magic in general and that is Billy Batson. According to Black Adam, he is not only ruining the reputation of magic, but will be the end of the magic realm – I guess you can say that Black Adam is just a little embittered towards our titular hero. But, good villains wouldn’t be half as interesting if it weren’t for their better villains, wouldn’t you say?

The bulk of the story does focus on Billy and the rest of the Shazam family as they are dealing with King Kid still. The story behind King Kid wasn’t one I particularly enjoyed when first introduced during this series. Still, it does seem that everything is a mixture of fantastical and dreadful when dealing with this young king. Has anyone ever played the board game Candyland? That is what this place always reminds me of. Great visuals, but a little too campy at times for my taste. That is just a personal opinion, though!

This fifth issue was fun, but it’s the sixth issue I will be the most excited for. We see Black Adam coming back and he is not alone – dealing with the likes of another powerful Shazam villain who will be recognizable for anyone who has seen the recent DC film. While I wouldn’t rank this issue high on my list of DC comics, it seems to at least be setting up for a great story that we will certainly want to pay attention to.[/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=”21595,21596,21597,21599,21601,21602″ img_size=”411×631″ speed=”3000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][vc_single_image image=”21598″ img_size=”600×461″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
