‘DC Universe’ Will Show Original 1974 ‘Shazam’ Saturday TV Series

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”16823″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]I remember it well. 1974 on Saturday Mornings, I would sit down and watch the beginning of 30 minutes of superhero action with this intro: “Chosen from among all others by the immortal elders: Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, Mercury. Billy Batson and his mentor travel the highways and byways of the land on a never ending mission: To right wrongs, to develop understanding, and to seek justice for all. In time of dire need, young Billy has been granted the power by the immortals, to summon awesome forces with the utterance of a single word: SHAZAM! A word which transforms him in a flash into the mightiest of mortal men, CAPTAIN MARVEL!” Kind of Hokey? Yes. Lame?? Perhaps. But back in the day to a nine year old, it was oh so cool.

With the impending release of DC’s Shazam!, the DC Universe streaming service is going to show for a short period of time, the original CBS Saturday Morning TV show, Captain Marvel. This show which lasted three seasons starred Michael Gray as Billy Batson, Les Tremayne as Mentor, and first Jackson Bostwick, and then John Davies as Captain Marvel. See? Captain Marvel was so cool he could turn into a totally different actor.

For those of you old enough to remember the original series, are you looking forward to a trip back into memory lane and relive a simpler time, especially where visual effects are concerned? Share your memories of those long ago days or for you newbies, your original thoughts with us at GVNation.
