Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date – Deadpool & Wolverine. A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his home world faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit up again with an even more reluctantlier… reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to… oh hell, just watch the movie. Synopses are stupid.

Video Quality
The 4K UHD Blu-Ray of Deadpool & Wolverine delivers a scintillating uptick in quality over the already wonderful accompanying Blu-Ray. The difference in quality is not a vast chasm, but the subtle increases in fine detail in the impressive production design and iconic costumes are greatly appreciated. The biggest story with this release is the return of Dolby Vision to a Disney release after years of only HDR10 (outside of James Cameron releases). This looks to be where the winds are blowing for the company, and we could not be more excited.
The Dolby Vision enhances every color in a way that will have you drooling from pure visual majesty. With the vibrant and colorful aesthetic on full display, you are thankful to have HDR to find the nuance within each hue that fully saturates the screen. When you explore various distinct environments, you tend to find at least one element that will plant a smile on your face. Skin tones and shades of makeup also appear more natural with impeccable detail apparent in close-up and medium shots. The elements in the film taking place in shadows are more defined thanks to deep black levels. The highlights in the film are also more crisp with white levels more controlled with no instances of blooming to be found. This 4K UHD presentation is a pure visual triumph throughout. There is nothing wrong with the Blu-Ray, but the 4K UHD Blu-Ray is the way to go if you have the system to support it.
Audio Quality
This disc comes equipped with an exciting Dolby Atmos presentation that shows off a first-rate soundscape. From the opening moments, the movie announces itself as a sonic juggernaut full of needle drops and action sequences that lend themselves to great complexity. The soundtrack is essential to the film’s identity, and it permeates the room with confidence. The all-important dialogue is presented crisply and clearly without ever being clipped by any of the competing sonic elements.
Sounds are expertly rendered with pinpoint directionality from the more frantic scenes to interpersonal exchanges. The track is replete with environmental details that emanate throughout the rear and overhead channels. The height channels take on a substantial amount of information which enhances the spatial dynamics of the track. The low end holds up better than we have come to expect from Disney with great activity under your seat. The sounds of traveling through different worlds and scenes of chaos provide an impressive soundscape that spans throughout all the speakers. There are no complaints with the audio for this one. Optional English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles are provided.

Final Thoughts
Deadpool & Wolverine is an interesting turning point for the merc with the mouth as he transitions from the Fox universe to the MCU (which is mined for many laughs). Bringing a fan-favorite character along for the ride is an easy way to gain enthusiasm from fans, and we hate that it works as well as it does. Hugh Jackman is so good in this role that we forgive some of the shameless fan service. The movie gets a bit too invested in giving fans what they want and forgets to make the narrative as compelling as it needs to be, leaving other installments to feel a bit more well-rounded as feature films. Nevertheless, this is a roller coaster ride of entertainment that succeeds in what it sets out to do, it just does not feel as substantial as a complete work of art. Disney Home Entertainment has released a 4K UHD Blu-Ray featuring a fantastic A/V presentation and some fun special features. If you are a fan of these characters, this release will treat you well.
