Details For Disney+’s ‘Willow’ Sequel Series Revealed

The word on the street is that Disney and Lucasfilm are developing a Willow sequel series for Disney+. The original film Willow was released in 1988 and as we know, everything from the 80s gets rebooted or revived. But, let’s focus on what we know – more specifically, what the Illuminerdi has told us.

Casting Call

According to the Illuminerdi, Tom Kapinos and Jon Kasdan are looking to expand the story with the intention of Willow stretching across multiple seasons. Lucasfilm and Disney reportedly have high hopes for the upcoming series. So far, there’s been no confirmation as to who will be in the series. But, there’s casting news that can give us an idea of who they are looking for. Keep in mind, sources say that the studios are looking to cast names unfamiliar to mainstream:

  • Girl 1 – Series Regular Female (18-24) Caucasian – Daughter of two characters from the first film
  • Girl 2 – Series Regular Female (18-24) Mixed – Young returning character from the film.
  • Male Love Interest – Series Regular (30-35) – Love interest to “Girl 2”
  • Girl 3 – Series Regular Female (18-24) Hispanic – The villain of the piece

The Illuminerdi is guessing that Girl 1 will be the daughter of Madmartigan and Sorsha. They also believe Girl 2 will be Elora Danan grown up. They surmise that Girl 3 may be another sorceress – keep in mind, these are all guesses.

What Will Willow Be About?

According to the Illuminerdi, the daughter of Madmartigan and Sorsha will be a major character in the show. We won’t see Val Kilmer reprise his role as Madmartigan, most likely due to the actor’s health problems.

Production Plans

Production by Lucasfilms is set to start in Wales in April of 2021. The Willow Series so far has had eight episodes scheduled for the first season. As we find out more, we will let you know.
