Disney+’s Upcoming Star Wars Lego Special Will Touch Upon 1978 Holiday Special

Lego Star Wars is wildly popular and a new special is hitting Disney+ on November 17th. Not only is this a treat in on itself, but it’s a holiday special that will tap into “A Christmas Carol” style. The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special will bring in Rey, Finn, and Poe to celebrate Life Day. This holiday was introduced back during the “infamous Star Wars Holiday Special that aired back on CBS on November 17, 1978.

Executive producer Josh Rimes explains why the 45-minute special will pay homage to that aforementioned special:

“We wanted to give a wink and a nod to the original,” executive producer Josh Rimes says, adding the new 45-minute holiday special was inspired by “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” “Christmas Vacation” and old Burl Ives musical cheer.

This holiday special will catch up with the cast of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as Rey and BB-8 go on a quest to gain an even deeper knowledge of The Force. Their journey to a mysterious Jedi Temple catapults them through space and time. Here, Rey interacts with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and other beloved characters. In the special they will return for a Life Day feast on Chewbacca’s Wookie home world of Kashyyk.

Rimes added:

“It’s a celebration of the saga. A lot of characters will be interacting with different characters and perhaps even different versions of themselves at different ages. It’s really hilarious with what’s going to happen with those guys,” Rimes added about Rey’s relationship with Luke, “It becomes a much different take on a teacher and apprentice with the more seasoned Rey and a younger Luke.”
