Doppelganger: a tale of supernatural suspense and psychological terror. In nature, every element has duality. Every male has a female, every day has a night, and every good has evil. In all of us, there too exists this duality. But in one desperate young woman, there is something more… something terrifying and something unimaginable.

Video Quality
Doppelganger makes its worldwide debut on Blu-Ray courtesy of Imprint Films with a digital AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.78:1 that appears to be from an older scan in acceptable shape. This label is based out of Australia, but the disc will play in all Blu-Ray players including those in the United States. The presentation seems to retain its naturally filmic 35mm appearance that showcases a decent amount of detail, but we are certain a fresh scan would help this one immensely. The picture has an overall softer appearance that keeps more intricate facets from looking appropriately crisp.
The grain can veer more towards the noisy side of the spectrum rather than something completely natural. There are some minor blemishes and other bits of print damage. Black levels are pretty lacking with some crush and banding present. Highlights are in a similar boat as they get a bit overly hot in some spots. Skin tones are consistent with subtle features showcased in closeup. The natural color palette is capably saturated with hues matching the grungy environments. We wish we could have gotten a new master, but we are glad to have it on physical media.
Audio Quality
The Blu-Ray comes with an LPCM 2.0 stereo track that holds up just fine within its sonic ambitions. The environmental effects have a formidable presence in the track which rarely falters in terms of depth and nuance. Dialogue is clear even when characters are putting on a vocal affectation. All of the exchanges hold up well with parallel sounds. The score sets the appropriate tone as it flows through the room with nice fidelity. There is no exceptional damage or age-related anomalies that impede your enjoyment. The audio is in good shape. No subtitles are included for the feature film.
Special Features
- Photo Gallery: A three-minute collection of stills from the film is provided.
- Theatrical Trailer (1:26)
Final Thoughts
Doppelganger is a pretty middling horror outing that is made notable thanks to the presence of the magnetic Drew Barrymore. She is asked to perform in a few different modes emotionally, and she handles them all with grace. The movie works more as a thriller rather than an all-out frightful outing, but those with modest expectations should be entertained enough. Although, if you are not a fan of Barrymore, you probably do not need to seek this one out. Via Vision has delivered a Blu-Ray featuring an average A/V presentation and no significant special features.
Doppelganger is currently available to purchase on Blu-Ray.

Dillon is most comfortable sitting around in a theatre all day watching both big budget and independent movies.
