Los Angeles-based distribution and financing company Epic Pictures, known for its specialty horror label DREAD, has announced the upcoming release of My First Horror Film in North America. This exciting debut feature, directed and written by Shihan Van Clief, has already made a mark on the festival circuit, winning awards at the Stockholm City Film Festival, Underground Indie Film Festival, Diabolical Horror Film Festival, and the Los Angeles Crime and Horror Film Festival.
The film’s storyline centers on an aspiring influencer, played by Georgina Navarro (Fade), who dreams of landing her first major role in a horror film. However, her journey takes a terrifying turn when a real-life killer begins targeting her cast mates. As the crew finds themselves in a deadly scenario eerily similar to the script they’re filming, they must join forces to survive and outsmart the mysterious assailant. The film also stars Chauntice Green (9-1-1: Lone Star), Justyn Franco (The Nexus), Stephan O’Shea, Joy Marie Thomas (Ballers), and Miles Crawford (Euphoria).

Van Clief, making his directorial debut, brings a unique perspective to the horror genre. He aims to blend the thrill of a traditional horror narrative with an uplifting ending, a combination that he believes is unconventional but effective. “As a first-time filmmaker, I wanted My First Horror Film to be a thrilling story that also leaves the audience feeling good. I know this sounds completely out of character for the horror genre, but I think we were successful at this,” Van Clief shares. He also hints at a special surprise for viewers who stay through the end credits, emphasizing the collaborative effort behind the project and expressing gratitude for his team and cast.
Yulissa Morales, Epic Pictures and DREAD’s VP of US Distribution and Creative, expressed her enthusiasm for the film’s release. “We are thrilled to bring the DREAD audience Shihan Van Clief’s directorial debut. He and his team have put a great film together and we are excited to see what he will do next,” she remarked.
My First Horror Film will have a special screening in Los Angeles on August 9, 2024, followed by a Video on Demand (VOD) release on August 13, 2024. Fans of horror and suspense can look forward to experiencing this unique blend of fear and hope, promising an unforgettable cinematic journey.
