DREAD, the horror label from Epic Pictures, has announced the North American release date for the feminist revenge slasher BYSTANDERS. Directed by Mary Beth McAndrews, the feature will be available on video-on-demand (VOD) starting January 21, 2025.
During its festival run, BYSTANDERS captivated audiences and critics alike, winning multiple awards at both the Nightmares Film Festival and HorrorHound Film Festival. At HorrorHound, it received 11 nominations and claimed 7 awards, including Best Feature, Best Directing, Best Writing, and Best Supporting Performance for Garrett Murphy.
Starring Brandi Botkin, Bob Wilcox, Garrett Murphy, Jamie Alvey, Chaney Morrow, and Hannah Fierman, the film tells a harrowing yet empowering story. Jamie Alvey, who also stars in the film, served as its writer.
Plot Synopsis
The official synopsis reads: Clare and Gray are your typical loving millennial couple navigating a jaded world. Abby is a sweet, awkward teen. When Abby attends a party hosted by her crush, a rich frat boy named Cody, the night spirals into chaos as Cody and his friends drug, rape, and hunt several girls in attendance. Abby’s path crosses with Clare and Gray’s, forming an unlikely alliance as the trio fights for survival against the collegiate predators.
Mary Beth McAndrews, in her feature directorial debut, brings a deeply personal perspective to the project. “Bystanders has been incredibly close to my heart since I first read Jamie Alvey’s script,” McAndrews shared. “As a sexual assault survivor, being able to tell this story in all of its gory glory has been incredibly cathartic and liberating.
