Fans have been clamoring for a live-action Five Nights At Freddy’s film for years. When it was announced that Blumhouse would deliver the film, fans have flooded the founder of the company, Jason Blum, Twitter posts asking for updates on the film. Last October Jason delivered news on the project by announcing that Emma Tammi would be directing the film and that production would begin in 2023.

Synopsis: Riddled with guilt over a tragedy in his past, and now struggling to take care of his younger sister Abby on his own, Mike is low on options when he lands a new job to pay the bills; the night security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the gig won’t be so easy as the animatronic animals that entertain kids during the day play their own sinister games at night.

Shortly after that announcement we dropped some exclusive news on characters who would be in the film which included Mike Schmidt, Vanessa, and Abby. Those characters would soon be confirmed with the official casting announcements.

Josh Hutcherson was officially cast as Mike Schmidt – “Riddled with guilt over a tragedy in his past, and now struggling to take care of his younger sister on his own, Mike is low on options when he lands a new job to pay the bills; the night security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. Mike is vulnerable with a tough exterior. Though he means well, his obsession with digging for truth may have potentially disastrous consequences.”

Piper Rubio was officially cast as Abby – “Mikes younger sister, Abby,is inquisitive and brave, with a creative mind and keen intuition. A bit of a loner who keeps her thoughts and feelings close to her chest, she expresses herself primarily through drawings. Growing up without her parents, while being raised by her unreliable brother, Abby has learned to fend for herself. That said, she is still very much a child, emotionally vulnerable, full of imagination, and not without the normal outbursts of a 10-year old”

Elizabeth Lail has reportedly been cast as Vanessa (this report seems to be confirmed as IMDb Pro now lists her as Vanessa in the cast) – “Vanessa is a police officer who shows up during one of Mike’s work shifts. While leading with a bright and sunny disposition, Vanessa has a keen understanding of the dark history and inner workings of the restaurant. Not wanting to reveal too much of what she may know, she works to help Mike survive the night”

The other big casting news was the announcement of ‘SCREAM‘ star Matthew Lillard as William Afton and Mary Stuart Masterson as an unknown villain.

Other news surrounding the film include the casting of young actor Lucas Grant as a character named ‘GARRETT’ and Jophielle Love as “GHOST KID #5” (name kept secret). We have also seen details regarding a child actor for “GHOST KID #3” but cannot verify the actor. UPDATE: We now have learned that David Hutson Doty will be playing “Ghost Kid #3”

These are most likely the missing children and vicitms of William Afton who inhabit the animatronics at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzareia. The children in the story are Susie, Fritz, Gabriel, Cassidy and Jeremy who inhabit the five animatronic characters of Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie the Bunny, Chica The Chicken, Foxy the Pirate Fox and Golden Freddy.

We have also heard that Kat Conner Sterling has been cast as a character named ‘Max’ but we are not able to confirm her involvement from other sources so that is just a rumor for now.

UPDATE: Kat Conner Sterling confirmed via Instagram that she was cast in FNAF and has begun filming in New Orleans.

Filming is set to take place in New Orleans, Louisiana from February 1 – April 6. Other filming locations include Laplace, Covington, and Terrytown.

UPDATE: Jason Blum himself shared the first image from Day 1 of filming on Five Nights At Freddy’s.

Production is also looking for 90s era cars which will be used early on in the filming and 70s-80s era cars for filming towards the later part of February. It stands to reason that this could mean we are getting William’s backstory through flashbacks which would show the gruesome crimes he committed and the history of Freddy Fazebear’s Pizzeria.

With filming set begin next week we are surely going to get more confirmation on casting news and of course set images.
