As I explored this year’s New York Comic Con, I remembered that there was another fun event taking place just up the block. The Sandman Dream Portal by Audible and DC invited convention goers to explore The Sandman: Act III and if you did not get a chance to go, you missed out. It was a ten-minute interactive experience that was a lovely immersion into a world I’ve already fallen in love with.
As I, as well as a small group; were led through the nooks and crannies of this interactive experience, we were greeted by the voice of author Neil Gaiman, who narrated parts of the act for us. Before we were even led in, we were greeted by a person in costume, who set the stage for us. Then, we were led in and the enjoyment began. It was a dark room and the people working there did a great job of letting us know when it was time to go to the next area. There was smoke, moving images, and even some live-action moments, like when a person in a mirror-covered bodysuit started dancing.
It was a short experience, but it was still cool. It was nice hearing Gaiman narrate the experience and I liked the combination of video graphics, utilization of smoke effects, and the inclusion of live-action performances. It was also a treat to know Gaiman himself was there, as well as Mason Alexander Park, who plays Desire in the Netflix adaptation of The Sandman.
Below, you’ll see official photos provided by the exhibit. It was a really nice moment to have experienced and a great way to immerse people in the third act, which is available now!
