[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”28872″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Filmmaker Richard Linklater is beginning a very ambitious project. Linklater is known for his 2014 Boyhood, which spanned 12 years. Linklater’s upcoming film will be an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Merrily We Roll Along. The musical was based off the 1934 play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. The musical takes place over the course of 20 years and according to Collider, Linklater is intending to follow that same time period. Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein are set to star. Apparently, Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions are attached to the ambitious project.
The musical is about Franklin Shepard, who is a talented Broadway composer who abandons his career in New York, along with his friends in order to produce movies in Los Angeles. The musical begins at the height of his Hollywood career and moves backward in times. It follows Franklin during the most important moments of his life. Platt is set to play the lead, while Feldstein will play the best friend, Mary Flynn – a theater critic. The film is being filmed in reverse chronological order, due to the play and musical ending where the characters are in their mid-20s.
This is quite ambitious and it will be interesting to see in twenty years.
What do you think about Linklater’s intentions to shoot Merrily We Roll Along over two decades?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
