After seven years of critical acclaim, the final season of Game of Thrones didn’t quite go the way many fans wanted. The two men most fans aimed their anger at were writers David Benioff and Dan Weiss. While many of the shows cast sympathized with the fans, they were also defensive of their writers and the show.
For the 50th San Diego Comic Con, the Game of Thrones creators and many of the cast were scheduled to appear for a celebratory last go around. It seems however, they will be doing it without Benioff and Weiss, and Director Miguel Sapochnick. Additionally, actors Ian Glen, who played Jorah Mormont, and Nathalie Emmanuel, who portrayed Missandei, will also no longer be appearing.
However, panel members who will be attending include Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Raleigh Ritchie (Greyworm), and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister). In addition, Isaac Wright (Bran Stark), John Bradley West (Samwell Tarly), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), and Conleth Hill (Varys) will be attending.
The reasons for the departures were not given and it could have just been a scheduling conflict. However, for Benioff and Weiss, it might have been something else. It would not have been a comfortable position to be in to have to answer questions about the final season. As many of the cast has said, there was no way they were going to please everyone. As it turned out, they were right.
